One of "next Williams sisters" quits Sacramento match

Ena Shibahara beat second-seeded Tornado Alicia Black 3-2, retired, in a matchup of 17-year-old Americans today in the first round of qualifying for the $50,000 FSP Gold River Women's Challenger at the Gold River Racquet Club in the Sacramento area.
Black, the girls runner-up to Ana Konjuh of Croatia in the 2013 U.S. Open, and her younger sister, Hurricane Tyra, have been referred to as "the next Williams sisters."
Their father and coach, Sylvester Black, nicknamed his older daughter "Tornado Ali" for her quick feet and his younger daughter "Hurricane Tyra" for her aggressive style.
Shibahara, from Rancho Palos Verdes in the Los Angeles area, will face 26-year-old American Ashley Weinhold on Monday at 10 a.m.
Top-seeded Alexandra Stevenson, a 34-year-old San Diego-area resident, defeated Rianna Valdes, 18, of Boca Raton, Fla., 6-3, 6-3.
Stevenson, the daughter of basketball Hall of Famer Julius Erving and a Wimbledon semifinalist in 1999, will play Rosie Johanson of Canada on Monday following a 10 a.m. match. Johanson eliminated Alaina Miller, 16, of Saratoga in the San Francisco Bay Area 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-1.
Two of the United States' top juniors -- third-seeded Usue Maitane Arconada, 16, and Michaela Gordon, a Saratoga resident who will turn 16 next Sunday -- will meet on Monday at 10 a.m.
