Top seed Pella advances in Comerica Challenger

Top-seeded Guido Pella of Argentina defeated Malek Jaziri of Tunisia 6-4, 6-2 Monday in the first round of the $100,000 Comerica Bank Challenger in Aptos, Calif.
Pella, ranked No. 96 in the world, was playing in his first match since losing to Jesse Levine of Canada in the first round at Wimbledon.
Former Stanford star Bradley Klahn eliminated Tatsuma Ito of Japan 7-6 (5), 6-3 in the opening round.
Klahn, a 22-year-old left-hander, is ranked a career-high No. 147 just 13 months after turning pro. Aptos is located 50 miles (80 kilometers) south of Stanford.
Kops-Jones, Spears repeat -- Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears won their second doubles title in two weeks in their native state of California on Sunday.
Seeded third, Kops-Jones and Spears beat unseeded Hao-Ching Chan of Taiwan and Janette Husarova of Slovakia 6-4, 6-1 in the final of the Southern California Open in Carlsbad. Spears lives in nearby San Diego.
Kops-Jones and Spears had edged wild cards Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia and Martina Hingis of Switzerland 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-3) in the quarterfinals.
The 32-year-old Hingis, who was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame last month, was playing in her first tournament since announcing her retirement in November 2007.
